This is one of our John Deere No-Till Drills (AEA #11)
AgAmerica's inventory includes four 15-foot no-till drills. Three units
are John Deere 1590 drills, and one is a Case 5400. These may be used to
incorporate cover crops, winter grain, pasture grazing, ultra-narrow row cotton,
and other crops on 7-1/2 inch or other modified row spacing. Planting may be accomplished with
little field preparation (other than fertilization), which is part of
conservation (reduced tillage) production. A smaller (6-foot) unit, our
Greenscape Solid Stand Seeder, may be used in smaller areas for similar
purposes, and is quite suitable for establishing erosion control plantings.
These units are also popular for incorporation of wildlife plots within a farm
conservation program. Such wildlife plots may be also used by farmers to
diversify their income through hunting and sightseeing ventures.
Farmer Benefits
- Cover crop establishment for reduced tillage operations, or no-till crop
incorporation improves surface residue & soil moisture retention, decreases
erosion, and improves soil health.
- No-Till drills are expensive investments, and often not affordable for
smaller operations. The library concept allows the investment to be
used by many participants, keeping maintenance costs low for the users
through the increased volume of users. The benefits may be shared by
many otherwise unable to afford these reduced tillage tools.
- Reduced tillage methods decrease the number of field operations
necessary in crop management, thereby reducing input costs of fuel, time,
and machinery wear.
